Publishers' Column
Spring is here and it couldn’t have arrived at a more perfect time. In many parts of the country, people have not only been burdened by economic turmoil, but with a harsh winter season too. The combination of economic and climatic conditions truly tested the human character during the past three to four months. In life, there are certainly events and circumstances that cannot be controlled; at the same time, often our means directly correlate to the ends that are produced. While it is unfair to say that markets are controlled by demeanor, there is definitely truth in the phrase ‘attitude is everything.’ Hopefully, spring and the Stimulus will bring a rebirth to our global community, environment and economy. Written by Michael W. McNatt, Esq., LEED AP, Obama's Efforts to Green Jump Start the Economy is presented in this March issue.
This issue of Green Space Today also features New York City. Incorporated in 1625, New York City is one of America’s oldest and most historical urban centers. Despite being the most populated city in the US with an aging infrastructure, New York City still continues to proactively evolve. With Mayor Bloomberg at the helm, New York City has become largely sustainable in recent years. In this issue, Green Developments in the Big Green Apple (NYC), written by Michael Kent, a New York City-based urban planner, is a must read. In this special feature, learn about green spaces, policies, events, and businesses that are making NYC more sustainable.
Other articles include The Reclamation of Detroit, written by Anjell Karibian, IIDA, LEED AP, and Detroiter. Our green space of note is on The Winthrop Club, the first residential high-rise in the Midwest that will attain LEED Gold certification. Be sure to read resources such as Energy Efficiency Tips For Consumers, along with Growing a "Green" Corporation: Meeting the next great disruptive challenge of the 21st century.
In April, Green Space Today will editorially focus on green houses of worship as well as religious traditions and doctrine that promote environmental stewardship.
Thank you for reading Green Space Today.
